“So … I’ve been meaning to ask you … did you get a new boyfriend or something?” “Why?” “Because lately you’re all styled up and glamorous and make-up and everything!” We were in the bathroom at an office party. My workmate is the most gorgeous human being I’ve ever seen. She has pouty lips, luscious lashes, dark curly hair, and the slightest blush. She’s 5’9, a true African beauty with generously yummy curves, superb hips, and a flat tummy. She’s one of those girls who could wear a pillow case with a belt and look… Continue reading →
I’m not much of a girly-girl, though I recently took an etiquette class, bought a pair of Comfit heels, and learned to use make up. I do love shoes though. I spend hours drooling at pairs I’d never wear, mostly because if I did, I’d never walk again. So a few weeks ago, my baby and I decided to go shopping. The plan was to get jeans, sneakers, and boots. Like all girls, I love pretty things, but like many Kenyans, I’m watching my pockets. Luckily for me, I have skills. I grew up around… Continue reading →
Well, when you move to a more formal professional service company, you realise you have to step up your wardrobe. Its not that you have a bad wardrobe, mismatched clothes or tired clothes, its that perhaps you haven’t worked in such a formal organisation before so your was abit of a newbie with the suits. So my first question to you before you read any further is, ‘what’s your work dressing style saying about you?’ The biggest mentality i am sure many are familiar with is the ‘I don’t care what people think, about how… Continue reading →
I’m seated on the couch one Saturday morning, having my breakfast and watching crazy cartoons. This particular one gets my attention; the setting is in ancient times. The men are fighting and killing each other in these nice gladiator shoes and even after the repetitive in between commercials, I keep thinking about those gladiators. (Yes, it’s all about the shoes). Later in the afternoon walking around the malls, I see the same gladiators. The gladiator shoe fashion trend came a few seasons ago but they were initially there since the ancient Roman time. Back then… Continue reading →
I know you must be wondering, what exactly is a ‘must have’? Well, let me take you back to last Friday; place-Maggies, time-4pm. I was out with a girlfriend for a quick coffee with creamy lemon cake before heading home. Usually this is the time of day when a lot of people (mostly ‘office’ working types) are walking in and out for coffee dates with post-mortem chit-chat sessions about the office politics and gossip. As we were chatting away with my friend, this lady walked in standing at 5’5 maybe in her mid-twenties and judging… Continue reading →
Is it just my imagination or are men in Nairobi are getting less courteous as the days go by. I have been clicked at by two men in the last one week and I can’t stop getting irritated even by the thought of it. How now!! Imagine, a man clicking at a woman!! Kwani nani mama kuliko mwingine? Call me when you have been in labor for 18 hours and you can click at me all you like. And that isn’t even the half of it. We are physically being man handled everyday and we… Continue reading →
